As we begin the 18th chapter of John we find ourselves in the darkness of night with Jesus and His disciples as they arrive at the Garden of Gethsemane. And it isn’t too much later that His former disciple, Judas, will arrive… with a darkness of his own. But to get a better picture of the events that follow, it’s important to understand exactly who arrived with Judas that night.

“Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to Him. Stepping forward to meet them, He asked, ‘Whom are you looking for?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they replied. ‘I am He,’ Jesus said … And as He said, ‘I am He,’ they all fell backward to the ground!” – John 18:4-6
