8 Bible Verses to Inspire Your Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day has always been a time to recognize and honour the moms in our lives. From birth mothers to step-mothers, mothers-in-law and grandmothers, to even spiritual mothers. These are the women who nurture us, care for us, and aid our walk with Christ.

Mothers not only play an essential role in our lives, but also in the Word itself. The Bible consistently asks followers to honour and love their mothers. Exodus 20:12, for example, says, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

Whether you are looking for a quotable Scripture for a card or simply want to take them in as a mom yourself, here is our list of Bible verses to inspire your Mother’s Day.

"You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God." – 1 Peter 3:4 Click To Tweet "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." – Proverbs 31:31 Click To Tweet "And Mary said: 'My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.'" – Luke 1:46-48 Click To Tweet “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” – Proverbs 31:25-28 Click To Tweet

Considering the historical timeline for the holiday itself, the Bible does not directly address Mother’s Day by name. But it often addresses the celebration of motherhood and mothers, such as in the following passages.

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'" – Proverbs 31:28-31 Click To Tweet "A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world." – John 16:21 Click To Tweet "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb." – Psalm 139:13 Click To Tweet "Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it." – Proverbs 22:6 Click To Tweet

Of course, exploring motherhood itself requires a much deeper conversation. For that, we definitely recommend checking out “What Motherhood Can Teach Us About God,” a recent episode of Grow on the Go podcast.
